Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Silence (Hush, Hush #3)
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Pages: 438 (Hardcover)
Publication: October 4, 2011 by Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Goodreads Summary:
"The noise between Patch and Nora is gone. They've overcome the secrets riddled in Patch's dark past...bridged two irreconcilable worlds...faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust...and all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they've worked for—and their love—forever."

Review:

I actually don't think I have any words for this book. My emotions after I finished reading the book: astonished, miserable, excited, lighthearted, cheery, and sleepy (I stayed up past midnight reading it, it was THAT amazing. AND, I went to sleep smiling from ear to ear). What are you saying, Jennifer? Some of these emotions oppose each other. But seriously, that's how I felt.

Silence picks right back up (ish) after Patch and Nora get back together in Crescendo. But, the beginning of the book starts off with Nora waking up in a cemetery with no memory of the past five months. Including no memory of Patch. And for some reason, no one is telling Nora about him. They even hide the true facts from her. This absolutely ripped my heart in half when people took advantage of her, it was very frustrating to read through. Why would anyone hide the love of her life away from her? And the fact that Nora didn't even remember who Patch was... I wanted to go die in a hole. What a miserable time.

However, Patch and Nora meet again. He goes by Jev for the first half of the book, and it bothered me a little bit, because Path suited him much more. When Nora starts to remember who Patch is again, a dark black cloud disappeared over my head and my heart was filled to content once again. Watching Patch and Nora's relationship bloom (like in Hush, Hush) was just phenomenal to read about, I loved it so much. So tender.

Fitzpatrick surprises us readers with many new plot twists, and clever schemes. I was probably awed in every  chapter that I read through, it exceedingly terrifying. The creep-factor was definitely still on high, and I loved every second of it. Even though I read Hush, Hush  and Crescendo by Becca, and am very familiar with her writing now, I am yet, STILL astonished by her writing style. It sparks me every time and I just get pulled in willingly. I have no words on HOW she does it. I just don't.

THE ENDING. Ohmygoodness guys, the ending. I was thinking,"WHAT? WHAT? What just..happened..?" Becca Fitzpatrick did a fantastic job surprising me for sure, and I was literally slipping off my chair when I was reading it. I almost ripped out my hair reading it as well. Becca Fitzpatrick is very mean, leaving us with a cliffhanger. AGAIN. Ugh, I don't really have the patience to wait for a WHOLE YEAR until book 4. It's gonna kill me.

All things considered, Silence was un-put-down-able, and I am DYING for book 4 in the series. Someone please go tell Becca to hurry up. I'll be looking forward to seeing my favorite couple again. :)

Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Crescendo (Hush, Hush #2)
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Pages: 427
Published: October 19th, 2010 by Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Goodreads Summary:
"Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it: a mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But, despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever and even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.
Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadnt been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.
Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself increasingly in dangerous situations as she desperately searches for answers. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts."

Review:
Crescendo was a lovely surprise. One moment I was shouting at the book, the next moment I wanted to hide under the covers and call my mommy. So many emotions in one book, I was more than satisfied of the outcome. Crescendo surely lives up to it's title, the growing intensity was immense and superb.

First, let's start with the plot. The beginning of the book jumped right back in to where Hush, Hush left off: Patch and Nora being a happy couple. In many ways, Crescendo was a much gloomier atmosphere because of Patch & Nora's breakup. I was devastated and not too happy about the idea at first, but in the end, I am so glad Becca Fitzpatrick did this because it made the plot 31478901 times better. Not-so-significant characters from Hush, Hush are now main characters in Crescendo, and I loved how they were brought into the story. Becca Fitzpatrick forced me to have my heart beating so loudly I swear it can be heard a mile away! The events where so mind-blogging, it surely reminded me of the mysteries similar to Pretty Little Liars. I have to say, the creep-factor in this book was MUCH stronger than in Hush, Hush. I can honestly say that it might not be the best idea to read this at night. I'd say the plot overall is very strong and very well-crafted.

The characters! Oh la la, Patch and Nora's relationship...it was so confusing as they tested each other for loyalty and trust, the relationship was honest and real, not fake. Scott Parnell, introduced in Crescendo was annoying at first (which Becca Fitzpatrick intended him to be), but towards the end, I learned to love him, after certain sacrifices he makes. MARCIE MILLAR. Oh my, the mean girl. I actually loved this character, she is so snotty and rude, it makes her lovable, in a way. My opinion on Vee, Nora's bestfriend, hasn't changed one bit. She is still the bubbly, optimistic person that she was in Hush, Hush. A truly loyal friend. Although some characters most definitely aren't the best, the plot would have died without their personalities.

The writing was outrageously amazing. In every page, Becca took my breath away and left my craving for more. There is just something about the way she writes that draws me in. I don't know how she does it, but it's astonishing.

Like I said before, despite the darker atmosphere in this book, I clearly am in love with this book. After finishing it, I couldn't stop thinking about it, and I have kept thinking about book three, Silence. I can honestly say it was better than Hush, Hush. I know I can not wait any longer for Silence.

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Hush, Hush
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Pages: 391 (Hardcover)
Published: October 13, 2009
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Goodreads Summary:
"For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel. For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life."

Review:
This was a stunning 2009 debut from Becca Fitzpatrick. Ever since the release date (which was 2 years ago!!) I have been eyeing since. I can't believe I waited so long to get to it! I kept putting it back because I wanted to be caught up with the current releases. I am so, SO glad I finally got to it, because I enjoyed it. Thoroughly.

The plot was very similar to Twilight's, which, to some non-Twilight fans, may be disappointing. However, I am a HUGE Twilight fan, so I loved this book very much. Angels are more enjoyable for me than vampires, since they are less gruesome. In the beginning, the reader is introduced to Nora Grey, a regular teenage girl living in an isolated house with her mom. She meets Patch, a mysterious boy who seems to be antagonizing her and possibly following Nora. Nora and her best friend Vee, have been noticing someone in a ski mask where ever they seem to be. Nora soon discovers that Patch is a fallen angel, and the more she's with him, the more she's drawn to him. The resolution of the book was merely shocking and very suspenseful, and a tad ambiguous.

The characters: Nora Grey, I loved very much. She is a brave girl, and she sacrifices herself many times throughout the novel. She is a bit of a rebel, however, which makes her even more kick-ass! Patch.... oh man, Patch. He is probably THE hottest and sexiest guy in any book I have read so far. Job VERY well done, Fitzpatrick. He was so mysterious and indirect, it made him all the more annoying and vague and praiseworthy! Nora and Patch together is a match made in heaven, from what I think. Just so perfect, the two of them. That's most likely why I enjoyed the book so much. Since I admired the characters so much, it was just an extra push for me.

As far as suspense and mystery goes, it was really great. I found myself frantically flipping through pages (and sometimes peeking ahead) to see what was going to happen next! The surprise and irony was also great and VERY well thought out, I myself did not see it coming at all.

In conclusion, I'd like to say that this is one of my favorite books that I read this year. I'm so excited to read Crescendo and Silence soon! This book is very recommended, IF you liked/loved Twilight. Or, even if you didn't I'd still give it a try!
