Christmas Mix: You Make the Cold Disappear

Click on the image above to learn more about Fortnight of Festivities and enter in the giveaway!

You can't have a complete Christmas feature without music! If you enjoy Christmas music but are ready to stuff your ears with fake snow just to drown out the strains of the latest pop star whining about how they gave their heart away last Christmas, this is the mix for you! It consists of a variety of songs, from slow to upbeat, none of which should be overplayed by your local Christmas station.

I originally made this mix a few years back. I've tweaked it a bit over time - particularly for posting today, since some of the songs aren't available on Spotify - but it has stood the test of multiple Christmas seasons. I can put this mix on repeat for hours on end and never get tired of it. Hopefully, you get even a fraction of the enjoyment I've gotten from it! Without further ado, may I present You Make the Cold Disappear: A Christmas Mix.

BONUS! I know some of you don't get Spotify, so I made a YouTube playlist of all the songs, as well. Even better, you actually get the acoustic version of "You Make the Cold Disappear," which I prefer over the album version. Here you go: You Make the Cold Disappear (YouTube Playlist)

Friday Fun: TGIF at Greads |12|

Musical Stories: If you could read a book about any song, which song would you love to see written down in story form?
Racquel's picks:
How to Save a Life by The Fray & Far More by The Honorary Title are in my opinion, two of the greatest songs I have ever listened to! Their lyrics are so profound and moving, they brought tears to my eyes a few times. If they were both a story, it would be an extremely heart breaking story but a moving one.

How to Save a Life by The Fray (lyrics link)
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Far More by The Honorary Title (lyrics link)
I love you and I miss you
What else is there to say?
Wish You Were Here (With Me) by Enrique Iglesias (lyrics link)
Funny how the years,
They just pass us by
Seems like yesterday,
You were in my life

Emma's picks:
And as for more sad stories, Gone Away by Safetysuit, The Burn by Framing Hanley, and The Balcony Scene by Pierce The Veil. Racquel once (yesterday) told me that all songs can make stories, and they practically are stories themselves. I've listened to Gone Away so many times, in a way, it already has it's own story, it just needs to be written. Times like these, I wish I could be bothered to write...

Gone Away by Safetysuit (lyrics link)
I think I'll be gone away awhile,
Tell me all the things that I,
I'll be missing here in this old life man,
Cause I just don't know.

The Burn by Framing Hanley (lyrics link)
How can I give you life?
There's nowhere left to go when it's over.
I took the bullet, I took the heat, I took the fall.
I guess I was foolish to believe after all.

The Balcony Scene by Pierce The Veil (lyrics link)
Have you ever really danced on the edge?
Is something still scaring you?
Have you ever really danced on the edge?
The count of three is up

Best Friday wishes from Houston & Melbourne!

|Review| Amplified by Tara Kelly

Title: Amplified
Author: Tara Kelly
Published: October 25th 2011 by Henry Holt and Co.
Genre: New adult YA, contemporary, romance, music
Rating:
Goodreads summary:
When privileged 17-year-old Jasmine gets kicked out of her house, she takes what is left of her savings and flees to Santa Cruz to pursue her dream of becoming a musician. Jasmine finds the ideal room in an oceanfront house, but she needs to convince the three guys living there that she's the perfect roommate and lead guitarist for their band, C-Side. Too bad she has major stage fright and the cute bassist doesn't think a spoiled girl from over the hill can hack it. . .

In this fresh new novel by critically acclaimed author Tara Kelly, Jasmine finds out what happens when her life gets Amplified.
Racquel's thoughts:
Going into Amplified, I didn't have any expectations which was great because who doesn't like picking up random books and then ending up falling in love with it? Amplified definitely had everything I liked in a book! First of all it's a new adult book, meaning the main teenage character is out of high school even if they're just 17, like Jasmine, the main character of Amplified. New adult easily becoming my new favorite genre because while I enjoy plain ol' YA, I'm coming to realize I'm growing out of it and I've been catching myself reading more and more adult contemporaries to satisfy my reading hunger. Though, it saddens me when I'm only a teenage girl myself and I can't even relate books meant for my me and age group. But thank god new adult books have been filling in the gap that some YA books have been leaving.

The realistic high school settings I come across in YA books are very, very few so I don't have to worry about rolling my eyes about how ridiculous an author is portraying high school with new adult books. Also new adult books allow more freedom to the character since usually MC's are their own legal guardian. There is nothing I hate more than when I'm reading a YA book and main characters come an go without a single mention of parents. It's very annoying, I'm sure even fictional characters have parents just like single human being. I give new adult characters way more lenity about that and surprisingly, every single  new adult book I have read has been big on showing the relationship between parent and child. Even if that main character doesn't live with their parents anymore. I know, it shocks me too!! This is the case with Amplified, Jasmine has deferred college and therefore her dad kicked her out but that's not the end of that relationship, throughout the book we get so much impact Jasmine and her dad's rocky relationship has had on her and how moving past those things help her grow.

Which brings me to Jasmine. She is one of the strongest girls I have ever had the pleasure to read about. She might not have any paranormal, super powers. She might not be saying the world from an evil faery attack or a dystopian government but she is a real heroine! Seeing her struggle with life, money and just surviving in the book without asking anyone for help or burdening anyone with her problems frustrated because it made me want to jump in the book and help her myself but she soldier on and made the best of everything! If that's a true heroine quality, I don't what is.

The secondary characters were also great, I loved all the band members even when they were a little moody *coughBRYNcough!* though I felt Felix was a little under developed compared to Veta, Bryn & Sean. Speaking of Sean and the romance, I definitely adored Sean as a character but what's keeping this book from  being a 5 heart read is the simple fact that while the romance was highly enjoyable, it didn't BLOW ME AWAY and made my heart skip beats. Otherwise, everything about Amplified is worth going out for to buy the book!

Rating: 4~ an outstanding, enjoyable new adult novel. I cannot wait for more from Tara Kelly!

First:
I said no to my dad this morning.
Favorite:
"Oh my God." I said.
"Oh my God what?" Dad asked.
"Um there's a spider in my bed."
Sean crinkled his eyebrows, his lips twitching.
"So kill it," Dad said.
.....
"Sorry, Dad I--I have to call you back." I snapped the phone shut and sat up, gawking at Sean.
He rolled over, draping his arm over his forehead. "A spider? Really?
Teaser:
"This from the guy who makes C-side his lowest priority. Who misses at least one practice a week because he'd rather study the sex life of fish."

Tune In Tuesday [6]: Hot Chelle Rae

A weekly feature hosted by GReads that showcases music.
This week I'm featuring Hot Chelle Rae because I SAW THEM LIVE TWO DAYS AGOOOOO ASDLJKHSDKSLDFJHDSKLLKJHA!!!

And LOOK LOOK LOOK:
That's right! Signed by each and every band member! Ryan Follese, Ian Keaggy, Jamie Follese, & Nash Overstreet! I couldn't stop shaking when I was up on stage with them... The conversation went something like this:
Me: YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!
Them: *looks up* thank you.
Me to Ryan: I LOVE YOUR TATTOO!
Ryan: oh *laughs* thanks!
*Ian hands me the CD*
Me: THANK YOU! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
It was a free concert in a shopping centre (40 minutes drive away from home!) and you could get autographs if you bought the CD. I filmed this (quite badly) and as you can see, I'm behind a lot of cameras... Basically I was on the very left hand side in the middle section and people kept pushing, *sigh*.
Honestly (Acoustic)

Lyrics:
Honestly why are my clothes out on the street?
Honestly, I think you've lost your mind
I can't believe I came home to find my car keyed
And honestly I'm way too tired to fight

Round and round drama every time

Ima go cause I got no problem with saying goodbye
Is it wrong that I'm gonna be having the time of my life
Cause deep down I know
I should cry I should scream and get down on my knees
I should say that I need you here but I'm gonna party tonight
Cause honestly I just don't care
Honestly I just don't care

Honestly everybodys stoaked I'm finally free
honestly my phone's blowing up tonight

I'll go out get drunk again
Make out with all your dumb friends
Tag your face just to rub it in

Ima go cause I got no problem with saying goodbye
Is it wrong that I'm gonna be having the time of my life
Cause deep down I know
I should cry I should scream and get down on my knees
I should say that I need you here but I'm gonna party tonight
Cause honestly I just don't care
Honestly I just don't care

Ohhhh
Don't roll up when they're playing my song
Don't act right when you know you're dead wrong
You're out of line, out of line tonight

Well I'm undercover, you can drop that bomb
It's a little too late cause I'm already gone
I'm already gone

Honestly you did it to yourself
So don't blame me

Ima go cause I got no problem with saying goodbye
Is it wrong that I'm gonna be having the time of my life
Cause deep down I know
I should cry I should scream and get down on my knees
I should say that I need you here but I'm gonna party tonight

Ima go cause I got no problem with saying goodbye
Is it wrong that I'm gonna be having the time of my life
Cause deep down I know
I should cry I should scream and get down on my knees
I should say that I need you here but I'm gonna party tonight
Cause honestly I just don't care
Honestly I just don't care
Honestly I just don't care
Honestly I just don't, I just don't, I just don't
Honestly I just don't care

Tune in Tuesday [1]

A weekly feature hosted by GReads that showcases music.
Other than reading and writing, I find myself very passionate about music. I go through phases where I obsess over bands and songs, and frankly, continuously tweeting about them is not enough!
So, thank you Ginger!

First song of the year goes to~
Title: Motions
Artist: This Love
Genre: Rock

I've got Motions on repeat all day (and occasionally I switch it back to repeat all on the album "At War") There's not one song of This Love's that I do not love. This Love is so definitely underrated. I hate that I can't simply type their name in Google and have them turn up on the first page (although that may also be their completely mainstream name). "At War" is a politically themed album, and let me tell you, it puts so much emotion and feel into their music. The guitar solos throughout this album are quite eargasmic. Joe McFaddin makes me want to sing along and stand by his side to join the war. His voice is utterly exhilarating, even live.

Other songs to listen to by This Love: We Are The Brave, Alive, & Shootout
