If I Had A Magic Lamp |2|

If I Had A Magic Lamp (IML) is hosted by Haley at Ya-Aholic. This week features things you will wish for if you had a magic lamp. They can be however many wishes you want and about anything but since this is a book blog 90% my wishes will be books and I'm going to stick to three wishes because according to genie from Aladdin, I only get three wishes(;

So let's get started!

My first wish would be Babe in Boyland By Jody Gehrman

Publication: February 17th 2011 by Dial

292 pages

When high school junior Natalie - or Dr. Aphrodite, as she calls herself when writing the relationship column for her school paper - is accused of knowing nothing about guys and giving girls bad relationship advice, she decides to investigate what guys really think and want. But the guys in her class won't give her straight or serious answers. The only solution? Disguising herself as a guy and spending a week at Underwood Academy, the private all-boy boarding school in town. There she learns a lot about guys and girls in ways she never expected - especially when she falls for her dreamy roommate, Emilio. How can she show him she likes him without blowing her cover?

I'm wishing on this because not only does it sound like my favorite cup of tea (which is funny, quick romantic reads!) I also read Jody Gehrman Triple Shot Betty and it was HILARIOUS so I'm sure just from the summary of this, this will be just as hilarious!

My second wish will be Shut Out by Kody Keplinger

Publication: September 5th 2011 by Poppy

273 pages

Most high school sports teams have rivalries with other schools. At Hamilton High, it's a civil war: the football team versus the soccer team. And for her part, Lissa is sick of it. Her quarterback boyfriend, Randy, is always ditching her to go pick a fight with the soccer team or to prank their locker room. And on three separate occasions Randy's car has been egged while he and Lissa were inside, making out. She is done competing with a bunch of sweaty boys for her own boyfriend's attention.

Lissa decides to end the rivalry once and for all: she and the other players' girlfriends go on a hookup strike. The boys won't get any action from them until the football and soccer teams make peace. What they don't count on is a new sort of rivalry: an impossible girls-against-boys showdown that hinges on who will cave to their libidos first. And Lissa never sees her own sexual tension with the leader of the boys, Cash Sterling, coming.

Inspired by Aristophanes' play Lysistrata, critically acclaimed author of The Duff (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) Kody Keplinger adds her own trademark humor in this fresh take on modern teenage romance, rivalry and sexuality.

Where do I start with this? The fact that the author is only TWENTY years old and already this is her sophomore novel?! (The DUFF being her debut) Again, the author of this is just a girl in college! Yaaay to teen authors! Anyways, I downloaded the exerpet from Kindle and let me tell you, from just reading the first two chapters, I. Was. Hooked. I have heard all good things about this and I CANNOT wait until I get a copy for myself. Oh random fact, this was released September 5th (only five days ago and already it's famous among the masses!) and that was my brother birthday! He turned 21 so yaaay to September 5th for having many good things:D

Lastly I wish for Pure Red by

Publication: September 8th 2011 by Flux

240 pages

I, Cassia Bernard, do solemnly swear to find pure red—my passion—this summer. Dad's passion is art. When he's painting, no one can reach him, not even me. My mom's passion was the ocean. She said the ocean allows you to see whatever you want to see. That was one of the last things she ever said to me...

Sometimes what your heart desires isn't what it needs. Over the course of a hot Miami summer, sixteen-year-old Cassia discovers that sometimes it takes bullies and basketball, a best friend, and a gorgeous guy to help you understand what you actually need—and to help you see that, maybe, everything isn't so black and white.

Happy two days late release day to Pure Red! My wish for this is kind of different because actually, I wish that October 1st can come around already because I bought Pure Red from the Kindle store and for some reason it doesn't come out until October the 1st on the Kindle//: So dear genie, can you please fast-forward to the day I will have this sent wirelessly to my Android device to be read? Thanks a bunches! Anyways doesn't this book sound like the most delightful read? I love the idea of 'finding pure red' (I already found mine and it's procrastinating and sleeping like there is no tomorrow:D) and I LOVE the cover. It's so simple but great nonetheless- doesn't the guy on the cover have the cutest hair? Hello blondie! I really am looking forward to reading this, I've been anxious for a cute good ol' romance book lately and this sounds just like it!

So lovelies, what do you wish for? and have you read any of these books? If so, don't hesitate to tell me what you thought of them!

  1. Heh, I added Pure Red to my list:). Thank you for the rec. I have a copy of Shut Out that I really want to read, too. And of course, you know I've read Babe in Boyland.

Have you read The DUFF? I liked it quite a bit.
