|Review| Second Chance by Katie Kacvinsky

Title: Second Chance
Author: Katie Kacvinsky
Series: First Comes Loves #2
Published September 7th 2012
Rating: A
Goodreads summary:
Can two drastically different, imperfect people be perfect for each other?

It’s been four months since Gray and Dylan have seen each other. Dylan’s been traveling in Europe, while Gray has college, baseball, and a life rooted in one place. Gray’s determined to forget Dylan, the girl he fell in love with in First Comes Love. Besides, how do you make a relationship work with an independent loner?

Just when he decides he’s over her, Dylan makes an unexpected entrance back into his life, hoping their steamy romance can start right where it left off. Gray realizes you can tell your mind to do one thing, but you can’t always convince your heart to follow. Dylan realizes she finally has to make a choice between freedom and her relationship with Gray.

Hilarious, intense, inspiring, and emotional, Second Chance shows that love is a journey, and there are never clear road signs or maps to guide you along. You can only navigate with your heart.
Racquel's thoughts:
I only read as far as the first paragraph of the second chapter before I knew I would absolutely love this book and I was right, Second Chance is just as good, if not better, than it's prequel, First Comes Love. As it is, this sequel needed to be written and I'm so beyond happy and grateful that Katie Kacvinsky is giving readers this opportunity to read Second Chance.

Second Chance is told from the alternating POV (I love this!) of Dylan, a nomadic unicorn girl, and Gray, a college baseball player who's bitter bitter bitter. In First Comes Love, Gray also happened to be bitter bitter bitter but Dylan has helped him get past the dark times he was going through however, Dylan is now the reason that Gray is back to being unhappy.

Dylan is an unicorn eccentric girl, her brain wave frequency is definitely not the same as everybody else. She loves traveling and living in the moment and doesn't like obligations and things that restrict her and clip her wings. So that's why she doesn't have a cellphone, why she doesn't attend college and why she hasn't talked to the man she's supposedly will marry some day in a few months. What makes Dylan so different and what makes people love her is also the same reason why it's very hard to love Dylan and I just loved that. It's impossible to not fall in love with Dylan but she's too much of a free spirit and a nomad to stay in one place and Gray cannot just commit his life to following his love around.

Second Chance tackles the subject of does love really conquer all? Gray has college and baseball and fans and friends and a home while Dylan's definition of home is traveling and it's very hard to maintain a relationship this way and Gray and Dylan need to reach a decision. Does Gray love Dylan enough to set her free? Does Dylan love Gray enough to change herself and stay? What is the right choice?

Katie Kacvinsky has created two characters that I have grown to care about immensely and are now easily some of my favorite characters. Gray has gone through a lot of things in First Comes Love and Second Chance and it's been great seeing how he grew and how each situation has made him stronger. I also love how Dylan IS an eccentric character and definitely out of the norm yet she was still human. Sometimes unique and "different" characters happen to be so different to the point of just plain unbelievable and unreal.

Second Chance has a bittersweet tone to it but it also delivered some serious laughs. I was sitting in the library while I was reading this and I randomly started laughing like crazy. Good thing my friend was sitting next to me and I could just pretend that I was laughing at what he was saying.

The fact that this book is new adult makes it 1000X times more powerful. We get to see Gray adjust to being a college student who can't just throw away his money here and there. We get to see the characters in the book adjust to the fact that they're now capable of actually holding and maintaining strong relationships and that surprise surprise, it's marriage time for some people! I just loved this setting and I really beyond enjoyed seeing these characters adjust to being away from home and away from their parents. It's very interesting to read about.

First Comes Love and Second Chance are absolute MUST READS and I cannot wait for the third and final book that should be titled Third Time Is The Charm but I guess you just can't win them all. So Finally Forever, GET IN MY KINDLE ALREADY!

Rating [A] Katie Kacvinsky gives readers another page turner. If you know what's good for you, you would pick up a copy of First Comes Love and Second Chance immediately.
