Waiting on Wednesday: The Summer I Became a Nerd

What book? The Summer I Became a Nerd by Leah Rae Miller

When does it come out? May 7, 2013

What is it about? On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader — perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl's body isn’t just unknown; it's anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way. Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.

Why am I waiting on this book? I have been desperately awaiting this book since I first stumbled across it, several months ago. Yes, the cover is horrendous (seriously, WHAT is that font?), but I am SO IN LOVE with the premise. Popular Girl is secretly a Nerd Girl at heart? Adorkable love interest who works at a comic book store? I love the whole idea behind it. Obviously, Maddie is going to have to learn how to embrace her inner nerd and be okay with letting other people know about that. But I want to know how it happens! And I really want to see her really delving into all the crazy awesomeness of nerddome and falling for Logan along the way.

Waiting on Wednesday |13|

Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Jill at BreakingtheSpine! It's basically a Wednesday meme that "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This Wednesday, I'm waiting on:

Try Not to Breath by Jennifer R. Hubbard
Expected publication: January 19th 2012 by Viking Juvenile
Try Not to Breathe
Goodreads summary:
A dark and provocative novel from the author of The Secret Year

Ryan spends most of his time alone at the local waterfall because it’s the only thing that makes him feel alive. He’s sixteen, post-suicidal, and trying to figure out what to do with himself after a stint in a mental hospital. Then Nicki barges into his world, brimming with life and energy, and asking questions about Ryan’s depression that no one else has ever been brave enough—or cared enough—to ask. Ryan isn’t sure why he trusts Nicki with his darkest secrets, but that trust turns out to be the catalyst that he desperately needs to start living again.

Jennifer R. Hubbard has created a riveting story about a difficult but important subject.
Why is this my WoW:
I love books from Male POV's and this looks like it's being told from Ryan's POV so brownie points for that. It's contemporary/romance/realistic fiction, my favorite genre ever AND, I will admit this: I hate drama in real life and in movies but for some reason, in books I LOVE drama. I like tears and fighting and screaming. It's entertaining and I urge it and this looks like it will be filled by drama if "dark and provocative" is any indication so I'm definitely excited for this to come out.
What are you waiting on? Don't hesitate to tell me :D

Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Jill at BreakingtheSpine! It's basically a Wednesday meme that "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This Wednesday, I'm waiting on:

Kiss Crush Collide by Christina Meredith
Expected publication: December 27th 2011 by Greenwillow Books
Kiss Crush Collide
Goodreads summary:
Leah has the life most high school girls would kill for—popularity, glowing grades, a rich, athletic boyfriend. So why does she feel like she can’t breathe? And why can’t she stop thinking about the boy from the country club? The one who isn’t her boyfriend, the one that her mother would never, ever approve of, the one that her perfect older sisters would never, ever look at twice. The one who is always looking back at her. Irresistible attraction, smoldering glances, the bad boy and the good girl—Kiss Crush Collide has everything that a steamy forbidden romance should, and then some.

With graceful and honest writing and an electric love story, this is a book about growing into your own skin. For fans of Perfect Chemistry, Sarah Dessen, and John Green.
Why is this my WoW?
I hate it when in summaries and praises, books are compared to other books because most of the time, those comparisons are very null and wrong but come! Perfect Chemistry is my favorite book ever, of course I would be interested in reading this! And even if this wasn't compared to Perfect Chemistry, the summary, eye catching cover and hot cover are enough to hold my attention:D

What are you're WoW's this week?
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me!

Waiting On Wednesday (11)

Hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine! This week's WoW is:

Slide by Jill Hathaway
(March 27th, 2012 by Balzer + Bray for HarperCollins)

"Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered.
Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body.
Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.
Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again. "
Why this is my WoW:
Doesn't the synopsis just sound FREAKING AWESOME!? I first found out about this book on one of The Story Siren's IMM's, and it sounded amazing, I instantly knew that this one is one to anticipate for. C'mon, Vee slides into people's minds! I've never heard something so creative before! Also, Slide is a 2012 debut!

Cover:
The cover is absolutely gorgeous, it's kind of abstract, and very creative. The colors on it almost seem ultraviolet! So cool!

What's YOUR WoW? :)

Waiting On Wednesday (10)

Hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine! Here's what I'm waiting for!

Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout
(September 18, 2012, by Spencer Hill Press)

"Dying sucks--and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.
Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he’s a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she’s more than interested. There’s just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out. However, she’s willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't?
But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not've been an accident at all, she’s not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time."
Holy crap.. that sounds good. OKAY. I feel like I'm literally the only person who has not read something by Jennifer L. Armentrout yet!!! What is this?! I feel terrible, since I have heard only amazing things about everything she has written. She is rapidly becoming famous! I need to pick this one up soon, and as well as her other novels. And this cover is just mediocre yet, gorgeous!

Waiting on Wednesday |9|

Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Jill at BreakingtheSpine! It's basically a Wednesday meme that "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This Wednesday, I'm waiting on:

Expected publication: May 8th 2012 by Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4)
Goodreads summary:
Honor receives her brother’s last letter from Iraq three days after learning that he died, and opens it the day his fellow Marines lay the flag over his casket. Its contents are a complete shock: concert tickets to see Kyra Kelly, her favorite pop star and Finn's celebrity crush. In his letter, he jokingly charged Honor with the task of telling Kyra Kelly that he was in love with her.

Grief-stricken and determined to grant Finn's last request, she rushes to leave immediately. But she only gets as far as the driveway before running into Rusty, Finn's best friend since third grade and his polar opposite. She hasn't seen him in ages, thanks to a falling out between the two guys, but Rusty is much the same as Honor remembers him: arrogant, stubborn. . . and ruggedly good looking. Neither one is what the other would ever look for in a road trip partner, but the two of them set off together, on a voyage that makes sense only because it doesn’t. Along the way, they find small and sometimes surprising ways to ease their shared loss and honor Finn—but when shocking truths are revealed at the end of the road, will either of them be able to cope with the consequences?

Why is this my WoW:
Because I just finished reading Jessi Kirby's debut novel and I loved it. Because I loved roadtrip novels. Because I love brother's-bestfriend-sounds-appealing stories and because this just sounds like a both worth loving! I can't wait until May!

This Wednesday, I'm waiting on:

Expected publication: January 17th 2012 by HMH Children's Books
Never Eighteen
Goodreads summary:
Austin Parker is on a journey to bring truth, beauty, and meaning to his life.

Austin Parker is never going to see his eighteenth birthday. At the rate he’s going, he probably won’t even see the end of the year. The doctors say his chances of surviving are slim to none even with treatment, so he’s decided it’s time to let go. But before he goes, Austin wants to mend the broken fences in his life. So with the help of his best friend, Kaylee, Austin visits every person in his life who touched him in a special way. He journeys to places he’s loved and those he’s never seen. And what starts as a way to say goodbye turns into a personal journey that brings love, acceptance, and meaning to Austin’s life.

Why is this my WoW?
Even though I prefer fun, mindless reads I love these kinds of books! They're always so emotionally packed it's hard not love them even though there usually depressing. They're the best life journeys to read about because they truly are life changing, when your racing against death you can't be anything but profound and truly live life to the fullest (or as much as your health can). Plus I love books from guy's perspective better then females MC and the simple cover is so beautiful and eye catching I definitely cannot wait until I read this!

Waiting on Wednesday |7|

Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Jill at BreakingtheSpine! It's basically a Wednesday meme that "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week my WoW is:
Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally
Expected publication: December 1st 2011 by Sourcebooks Fire
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4)
Goodreads summary:
What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys, and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university. But now there's a new guy in town who threatens her starting position... suddenly she's hoping he'll see her as more than just a teammate.

Why is this my WoW?
It's contemporary, so this automatically goes down in my TBR shelf. With this paranormal age, new contemporary books are as rare as unicorns.... Also it's contemporary romance which makes it a DOUBLE MUST read. Anyways the summary of this book sounds SO CUTE and ENTERTAINING. Every 'just one of the guys' books and stories I read I enjoyed so much because they always balance hilarious and the whole idea of finding yourself perfectly.

By the way, I came across someone saying how unrealistic this book sounds and I would like to butt in and say, NO. We had TWO females yes, GIRLS on our school football team two years ago, there is nothing unrealistic about girls being on football teams.

Also, my birthday is November 30 and this book comes out a day after, if anyone would like to gift me something, I wouldn't mind anything that shows up at my doorstep a day late *hint hint* It would be perfect ;D

Why this is my WoW:

So many bloggers are getting this for review! Merrr so jealous! It just sounds amazing! It's also a 2012 debut, even better! And doesn't that cover just draw you in? Sure, it's a girl in a dress, but it's a girl in a gorgeous dress, fading into what looks like smog, or the "Everneath" :) What are you waiting for?

Racquel's WoW:
Faking Faith by Josie Bloss
November 8th 2011 by Flux
Faking Faith
Goodreads sumamry:

After a humiliating “sexting” incident involving a hot and popular senior, seventeen-year-old Dylan has become a social outcast—harassed, ignored, and estranged from her two best friends.

When Dylan discovers the blogs of homeschooled fundamentalist Christian girls, she’s fascinated by their old-fashioned conversation themes, like practicing submission to one’s future husband. Blogging as Faith, her devout alter ego, Dylan befriends Abigail, the group’s queen bee. But growing closer to Abigail (and her intriguing older brother) forces Dylan to choose: keep living a lie or come clean and face the consequences.

Why is this Racquels' WoW?
Wow, have you heard of a plot like this one before?! First I salute the author for touching a real teen (an adult) everyday subject. Sexting, it happens everyday. That phone that just went off by you, 50% chance it was a dirty text message! And the whole getting shunned out and little bit about 'intriguing older brother' is well, INTRIGUING! I think this is going to be realistic fiction at it's best so sign me up for November 8th waiting!

Waiting On Wednesday (5)

Hi everyone! This is my first Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Jill at BreakingtheSpine! It's basically a Wednesday meme that "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating". This weeks WoW is:

Ruthless (Pretty Little Liars #10) by Sara Shepard
Release Date: December 6th, 2011 by HarperTeen
"For years scandal has rocked Rosewood, Pennsylvania—and high school seniors Aria, Emily, Hanna, and Spencer have always been at the center of the drama. They’ve lost friends, been targeted by a ruthless stalker named A, and narrowly escaped death. And it’s not over yet.
Aria’s love life is on the fritz. Emily’s exploring her wild side. Hanna’s kissing the enemy. And someone from Spencer’s past—someone she never thought she’d see again—is back to haunt her.
But none of that compares to what happened last spring break. It’s their darkest secret yet and guess who found out? Now A is determined to make them pay for their crime, and the only thing scarier than A is the fear that maybe, just maybe, they deserve what’s coming to them."

Why this is my WoW:
First of all, I completely ADORE the Pretty Little Liars series! I also LOVE the television series even more. So, without a doubt I'm going to continue the series :) I'm also all caught up on the series, finished Twisted when it came out, sadly, I'm not going to write a review for it. But there's even more reasons to read Ruthless! It sounds just as exciting, suspenseful, and creepy as all of the other previous books! December, hurry up, I need Ruthless! <3

Waiting On Wednesday (4)

Hi everyone! This is my first Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Jill at BreakingtheSpine! It's basically a Wednesday meme that "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating". This weeks WoW is:

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
(November 15, 2011)

"Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior."

Why it's a WoW:
I'm sure EVERYONE has heard of this baby already.. but I reallllllllllyyyyyyyy need to get my hands on it. SOON. I hear that the cover is shiny and beautiful and oh-so-lovable. I also hear that this book is freaking amazing? So yeah. IT SOUNDS INTENSE! Like the "new Hunger Games" ;)

Waiting on Wednesday |3|

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by BreakingtheSpine. It showcases upcoming published books that we're anticipating.

Hey, guys this is my first Waiting on Wednesday so *squeals!!* Jk Jk so without further ado this Wednesday I'm waiting rather impatiently on *drum roll* (actually no need since from the title you should know what the book is :p

Title:
The Next Door Boys
Author: Jolene B. Perry
Expected publication: October 8th 2011 by Cedar Fort, Inc

The Next Door Boys

With her body still recovering from last year's cancer treatments, Leigh Tressman is determined to be independent. Despite the interference from her overprotective brother, the ever-expanding line of young men ready to fall in love with her--not to mention the physical frustrations and spiritual dilemmas Leigh discovers what it actually means to stand on her own and learns that love can be found in unexpected but comfortable places.

Why is this m WoW? well, I haven't read a book quite like this before. The only cancer books I read were Before I Die (do I need to point out what happens in this one?) and It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life by Lance Armstrong because I had an assignment on it. But I have never read anything post-cancer and how life is after it. Always the during. Besides that, this sounds like it will be a great contemporary, I like the "over-protective brother" line in the summary, I LOVE over protective brothers (when they are not mine that is;D) and "expanding line of young men ready to fall in love with her" does this indicate romance? It goes with out saying this is a WoW!

Pre-order The Next Door Boys from Amazon here!

October 8th, can you please hurry up?

Waiting On Wednesday (2)

Hi everyone! This is my first Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Jill at BreakingtheSpine! It's basically a Wednesday meme that "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating". This weeks WoW is:

Frost by Marianna Baer (September 13, 2011)

"Leena Thomas’s senior year at boarding school begins with a shock: Frost House, her cozy dorm of close friends, has been assigned an unexpected roommate: confrontational, eccentric Celeste Lazar. But while Leena’s anxiety about a threat to her sanctuary proves valid, it becomes less and less clear whether the threat lies with her new roommate, within Leena’s own mind, or within the very nature of Frost House itself. Mysterious happenings in the dorm, an intense triangle between Leena, Celeste, and Celeste’s brother, and the reawakening of childhood fears, all push Leena to take increasingly desperate measures to feel safe. Frost is the story of a haunting. As to whether the demons are supernatural or psychological . . . well, which answer would let you sleep at night?"

Why this is my WoW:
First of all, it just sounds AMAZING! Really eery and mysterious! I've heard awesome things about it! And the cover looks so pretty with the blizzard! Although it looks like she's cupping her ear trying to listen to something, or doing sittups...

What are YOU "waiting on"?

Waiting on Wednesday (1)

Hi everyone! This is my first Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Jill at BreakingtheSpine! It's basically a Wednesday meme that "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating". This weeks WoW is:

Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs (September 6, 2011)

"Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.

Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.

Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they're triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.

These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight." -
Goodreads Summary

Why this is my WoW:
Ummm.. in case you haven't realized.. it has freaking Greek mythology involved. AND TRIPLETS. :) I haven't read anything from Tera Lynn Childs before (yes, sadddd ), but I am so excited for this one! It sounds amazing!

What are you "waiting on"?
