Top 10 Books I’m Looking Forward To in 2013

Racquel's Answers
In no particular order, here are some of the 2013 books that I reallyyy want to read!
by

This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.
I am SO ridiculously excited to read this. I'm not an Alice in Wonderland fan because I haven't even read it/watched it but the summary, the cover, the reviews... I JUST WANT IT! and it comes out in FOUR DAYS! It's going to be my road trip read when I go back home.

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
Shatter Me #2
Expected Publication: February 5, 2013
tick, tick, tick, tick, tick
it's almost
time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance. She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.
Shatter Me was absolutely amazing - one of the best books I read this year. Destroy Me took my mildly repulsed but overwhelmingly curious perceptions of Warner and flipped them upside down and confused me in a wonderful way. I CANNOT WAIT to see what awaits me in Unravel Me.

The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Mara Dyer #3
Expected Publication: 2013
No summary yet either.

Sheesh.

But, really, if you have read the first two, you don't need one. At least I don't. I just need MORE.
This series is a mind-bender like none other. Every book in it has the side effect of not letting me eatsleepshowerfunctionlikeanormalhumanbeing until I finish it, I LOVE EVERY SECOND. And the last book left off at a huge point, and I want to know what happensss.

Boundless by Cynthia Hand
Unearthly #3
Expected Publication: January 22, 2013
The past few years have held more surprises than part-angel Clara Gardner could ever have anticipated. Yet from the dizzying highs of first love, to the agonizing low of losing someone close to her, the one thing she can no longer deny is that she was never meant to live a normal life.

Since discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods, Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that follows her . . . even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving town seems like the best option, so she’s headed back to California - and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that started her on this journey in the first place.

As Clara makes her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he’s not the only one. . . . With the battle against the Black Wings looming, Clara knows she must finally fulfil her destiny. But it won’t come without sacrifices and betrayal.
I lovelovelove these books. After a failed attempt with Fallen, I decided angel books weren't for me, despite the appeal. And then I read and fell in love with Unearthly. I love both the boys in the triangle, and I love the world. I am invested in pretty much EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE in this trilogy, and I am so excited for the final book.

The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead
Bloodlines #3
Expected Publication: February 12, 2013
In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch--a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood--or else she might be next.
ADRIANNN. ♥ Oh, and everything else, too. (Kidding. I love these books! I really hope no one tries to convince me that the mystery new boy in the cover is going to be a threat to my Sydney/Adrian shipping ways, though, because HAHAHAHA. Right.)

It Had to Be You by Jill Shalvis
Lucky Harbor #7
Expected Publication: May 28, 2013
Everyone in town thinks Ali Winters is a thief. Her only shot at clearing her name is a police detective who's as sexy as he is stern...

(Totally not a satisfying summary. But hey, who am I kidding? I would read this book if the summary said something about zombies. And I hate zombies.)
Jill Shalvis = Crazy amounts of excitement from me. Lucky Harbor = EVEN MORE EXCITEMENT.

Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt
Expected Publication: March 26, 2013
When Mallory discovers that her boyfriend, Jeremy, is cheating on her with an online girlfriend, she swears off boys. She also swears off modern technology. Inspired by a list of goals her grandmother made in 1962, Mallory decides to "go vintage" and return to a simpler time (when boyfriends couldn't cheat on you online). She sets out to complete grandma's list: run for pep club secretary, host a dinner party, sew a homecoming dress, find a steady, do something dangerous. But the list is trickier than it looks. And obviously finding a steady is out . . . no matter how good Oliver (Jeremy's cousin) smells. But with the help of her sister, she'll get it done. Somehow.
This book sounds like it is right up my alley! I am just so excited by the premise. It's so fresh and unique, and I have an obsession with vintage time periods.

The Summer I Became a Nerd by Leah Rae Miller
Expected Publication: May 7, 2013
On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl's body isn’t just unknown, it's anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.

Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.
So, I know the cover is a little hideous, but just READ THAT SUMMARY. I am soso excited for this one! It sounds fantastic!

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
Expected Publication: May 7, 2013
Falling in love in the world’s most romantic city is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year at the School of America in Paris, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to deal with the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever. Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.
I was completely wowed by both Anna and Lola, and I cannot wait to see what is in store in her third work! I am trying to keep my expectations to normal levels, but it's difficult given the amazingness of Anna and Lola.

Top 10 Book Boyfriends of 2012

I'm going to be a good girl and not compile this list of Lisa Kleypas heroes but *cough* Derek Craven, Sebastian St. Vincent, Cam Rohan, Harry Rutledge, Simon Hunt, Jack Devlin, Alex Nolan *cough*
So in particular order, here are my book boyfriends of 2012:
1. Duval from Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers
The romance in this book was just agonizing and just so damn LITERALLY swoon worthy.

2. Captain Bram from Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel
Zombie, WHA? But that's part of the appeal!

3. Josh AND Will from Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler
oh yeah, double swoon in this book!!! To me, it was quite obvious who the happily ever after boy is, but the other guy was still swoon worthy and I loved how Sarah Ockler didn't turn him into a bad guy just to let the other guy win the love triangle.

4. Grayson from Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols
Oh Grayson. You're could be such a jackass sometimes. But that heart of yours... ♥

5. Travis from Something Like Normal by Trish Doller
*clutches heart* *gives him a hug* Also, Travis is JUST SO REAL. I

6. Will and Elliot from Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin
This is a full out love triangle to the point where I do not know which team I'm on or which team will even win (but then again I do not read a lot of books with Love Triangles so I'm no pro when it comes to them)

7. Gray First Comes Love and Second Chance by Katie Kacvinsky
HE'S JUST SO REAL.

8. Russ from Lovestruck Summer by Melissa C. Walker
Oh Russ, your patience is an amazing thing because I would not have dealt with Quinn.

9. Tom from The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta
EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW WHY TOM IS IN THIS LIST BECAUSE EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE READ The Piper's Son BY NOW.

10. Alexander Moncrieffe from What I Did For a Duke  by Julie Anne Long
I deserve an award for having only ONE non-YA character in this list but oh my lord, Moncrieffe was just about the swooniest romance hero EVER. I mean he's so amazing, he's up there sitting with Lisa Kleypas's heroes in the scale of best fictional men. THIS IS THE HIGHEST COMPLIMENT EVER.

Honorable mentions:
Dave from What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen. He's no Owen Armstrong or Wes but those two have been my loves forever and I have reread Just Listen and The Truth About Forever quite a few times so until I reread What Happened to Goodbye at least two more times, Dave might make his way to the Best Book Boys Evaaaa list.

(apparently this list was supposed to be from books released in 2012 but some of them are not! Opps. It's impossible to do 10 from 2012 since I read a lot of older releases)
I'm still at Las Vegas so yeah, I don't have time to make this post pretty and awesome (plus it's already late :P) Thanks for stopping by!

Top 10 Historical Romances of 2012

I actually would have preferred to do a top 10 YA contemporaries or couples but after reading my first historical romance in the summer, I went a little crazy AND JUST HAD TO HAVE ALL THE HISTORICAL ROMANCES! so I actually didn't read enough YA to do a top 10 favorite list. But now that I have a high doze of historical romances in my system, I hope to balance YA and romance better in 2013.
So in no particular order, my favorite historical romances that I've read in 2012:
1. Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas: Two words: Derek Craven.

2. Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas: Just so so so so so good. Sherry Thomas knows how to write romances that break the usual pattern. And did I mention, THIS BOOK IS GOOD?

3. Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks: This is actually a Scottish highlander romance but it's still historical. It was tons of alpha-hero fun.

4. The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan: This is only a novella but it still better than some full lengths romances I have read. I highly highly recommend it.

5. Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas: This is my favorite historical romance by Lisa Kleypas. It's just so good and romantic and *swoon*

6. What I Did For a Duke by Julie Anne Long: This is one of the best well written romances I have ever read and well ever read. It's kind of perfect, actually.

7. Confessions from an Arranged Marriage by Miranda Neville: My first historical romance and it was epic. The hero and heroine truly HATE each other at the beginning and I do love the hate-love trope and it's just the best I've read in the book.

8. Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas: This is my favorite book from The Hathaways series even though peoples favorites is the book next on my list.

9. Tempt Me at Twilight  by Lisa Kleypas: An arranged marriage (well sort of) book written by Lisa Kleypas. I knew this would be perfect before I even read it.

10. Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas: Like I said, Sherry Thomas books really add something fresh to the genre. Her heroes are closer to earth than they are to alpha-hero heaven.
So I've been in a car for 13 hours straight and now I'm in some Hotel in El Paso resting for the night so my family and I could finish our road trip to Las Vegas tomorrow. So excuse the lack of book covers because I'm scheduling this on the go! I hope you had a very merry Christmas and the you're feeling the good holiday spirit today too!

Top 10 Books of 2012

Last week's top ten Tuesday topic was "Top Ten Books I Read In 2012 " and  since I didn't want this list to be repetitive, this list consists of 7 books I did not mention in my TTT list but are still favorites and 3 books from the TTT books that MUST be mentioned again. So check out the TTT list if you want to see 7 more favorites ;D
These are the definite 100% favorites that will make it to every list.

1. Out of Reach by Carrie Arcos
This book just pow pow pow hit me. So powerful and just freaking good!
2. Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer
A romance that just *killed* me from how slow it is. It broke me and put me back in place of how I love you Will and Elly.
3. Confessions from an Arranged Marriage by Miranda Neville
This is my first historical romance so it now has a special place in my heart!
These 7 are the second half of my favorite books (the first 7 mentioned here)
4. What I Did For a Duke by Julie Anne Long
I'll quote Ruthie Knox, "When I finished it, I thought, “This is how you do a historical romance about a virginal younger girl and an intimidating titled man with a reputation for being unlovable. This.”" because YES. This book is what romance is. When I pick up a romance book, I'm looking for everything in What I Did For a Duke

5. Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler
Sarah Ockler became one of my favorite authors this year after I read Fixing Delilah and Bittersweet.  She just does contemporary so well. Sweet, meaningful, fun, realistic. Her books remind me of Sarah Dessen which is a big compliment.

6. What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen
I actually listened to this in audiobook and it was my first non-school required book and I LOVED it. The narrator made me love the book even more and I was just so happy with the book especially since I was disappointed with Along For a Ride which just KILLED me last year since I LOVE Sarah Dessen. (I actually put reading this book because I hard Jason-BLAH- is in it but *phew* it wasn't so bad.)

7. Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel
Good zombies? Steampunk? There wasn't a single thing to hate about this book. Lia Habel created an amazing world and the romance is just awe-sommeeee. I hate myself for not reading the sequel yet!

8. Something Like Normal by Trish Doller
I knew as soon as I found out about this book in August 2011that it will be GREAT and I was right. Something Like Normal is an awesome male POV novel that I flew through and I will reread it for many, many times.

9. Relatively Honest by Molly Ringle
Molly Ringle is one of my new favorite authors that I discovered this year. Her contemporaries are some of the most realistic I have ever read and I can't wait to read more from her!

10. Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas
Oh Sherry Thomas what did you do to my heart with this book.  It's about an estranged married couple and I JUST LOVE THIS PLOT. If you read historical romances, this is another must must must read.

I'm glad I could change the list up from last weeks top ten favorite 2012 books because these last 7 books deserved to be mentioned as favorites too and I can't wait to see your lists and to show you my lists for the next three days!
